• ANOTHER YEAR
(2007—2011)
Four Years of State of the Ozarks...

Four years. In many ways, it is hard to believe it has been four whole years since that dry, hot September I began StateoftheOzarks.net. Since then, my life has changed immeasureably. As many of you know, there have been lots of great days — and a few I would never want to repeat.

Through it all, the people of the Ozarks have helped me grow, have embraced this now truly great publication, and given of their heart and soul to see StateoftheOzarks become what it is today — a voice dedicated to preserving and celebrating Ozarks culture.

That deserves a party.

Bluegrass and Ozarks culture go together like peanut butter and grape jelly. Consequently, I can think of no better place to celebrate StateoftheOzarks’ fourth birthday than the Starvy Creek Bluegrass Festival (September 15—17).

Starvy Creek is an institution here in the Missouri hills. Located near Conway, you can always expect an amazing line-up of talent, including:

Dailey & Vincent, Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, Louisiana Grass, Balsam Range, JD Crowe & The New South, Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers, Bill Yates & The Country Gentlemen Tribute Band, Kody Norris & The Watauga Mountain Boys, Goldwing Express, Karl Shiflett, Cedar Hill, and the Drifters.

However, some of the best picking takes place in and around the camper park sprouting up behind the tree-encircled holler of the main stage.

And that’s where I get to introduce you all to Highway 32. Angie and Randy Hubbs, Robbie Bryant and Joe Dodson make up this up-and-coming group based in Salem, Missouri.

Highway 32 is graciously hosting StateoftheOzarks’ four-year birthday and you all are invited to help us celebrate.

Time: 5PM
Date: Saturday, September 17
Place: RV space D-14, Starvy Creek Bluegrass Park, Conway Missouri

Notes: I’ll be making some old-fashioned cheesecake for the event and hope to have StateoftheOzarks postcards to share as well. Be sure to bring your instruments ’cause I'm betting we’ll have a jam session afterwards.

Many, many thanks to Highway 32 for their friendship, support and hospitality.

Looking forward to seeing ya’ll there.

God bless,
Editor Josh Heston
